Kayaking KICK OFF!!!

Our first meeting after summer break will be Sunday, yes, Sunday, August 17 at the Busse Lake Boating Center. This is located in Busse Woods south of Higgins Rd. (Rt. 72.).

We will be Kayaking on Busse Lake. Instruction is part of the experience so don’t wimp out because you have never been kayaking before! Please be at the launch ramps by 1:30 pm for check in and opening ceremony. We will be done approx. 3:30 pm.

If you have a fishing pole and would like to do some fishing afterwards great! A valid Illinois Fishing license is required for 16 years old and up. Class B t-shirt will be the uniform. Fishing afterwards is an “on your own” activity so parents, please be present to watch/assist your scout. Additional information to follow.

The outfitter who is supplying the training and kayaks for Sundays outing needs a head count of who will be attending. Please let me know if you are planning on attending. Even if your dad told me at the Scoutmaster meeting you need to let me know as I have already forgotten who said they will be there (Scoutmasteritis, horrible condition, makes you want to hang around with teenagers and be VERY forgetful). The kayaks will be located in the parking lot closest to the boating center. Look for the L.L. Bean trailer. We will be covering most of the practical requirements for the kayaking merit badge so get that blue card from me when you are there! More later!

Directions

From I-90, exit on Arlington Heights Road. Travel south to Higgins Road for access to most parking areas. To access boat ramp, travel 3 miles west on Higgins Road from Arlington Heights Road. The long parking area is on the south side of the road, east of IL-53. The elk enclosure is on the west side of Arlington Heights Road, just north of Higgins.
