You asked for horseback riding, winter fun and indoor camping – well, we have a place for that!!  White Pines Horse Ranch in Oregon, IL.

Lodging is dorm lodging with bunks – necessary gear is minimal, however, White Pines Horse Ranch has some specific requirements for how we pack.  See the list attached at the end of this post.

Because of the lodging and scout/family activities, Troop 188 will open this opportunity up to troop families, on an “on your own activity bases” –   Meaning that Scouts will be engaging in the outing as a unit – engaging in the orienteering, wilderness survival and other scout-like activities,  while families are participating as family in related activities.  In other words – this is still a SCOUT OUTING and scouts are expected to participate in all unit planned activities!  🙂

MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT  – 9 Years Old. 

Departure:  Saturday, February 18 from CLC at 7:00 AM

Additional Leaders will be expected to pay full price for this outing – based on it being an inclusive activity and meal outing.

Adults – that will be attending as part of the family units, are asked to assist with transportation/carpool and lend an eye with supervision.  This helps us to reduce the travel cost.

Winter is a magical time at White Pines Ranch.  The scenery is breathtaking when snow covers the pine trees and all of the pastures are covered in a blanket of white!  The canyon is transformed into a winter wonderland with huge icicles cascading down the stand stone sides.  Weekends in December, January and February are pretty much like any other weekend at the ranch with a few changes…..

We will arrive on the morning of Saturday, February 18 at White Pines.  Check in, secure our dorms/bunks and start our day of fun! Accommodations are separate gender sleeping.  There will be other people outside of T188 visiting White Pines – we will have our own dorms.

Activities include horseback riding, sledding, cross country skiing, hiking, crafts, wilderness survival initiative tasks, horse grooming, orienteering, mapping and horse saddling – whew!  That’s a lot to do!

On Saturday we will enjoy country line dancing, a hayride, bingo and a campfire sing al long before heading off to bed.

Meals are inclusive – Saturday – lunch, dinner and bedtime snack!  Sunday – breakfast and lunch.
